- Article 1. Name
- This society shall be known as The Society for Gender Studies in
Japanese. - Article 2. Objective
- This Society shall research all aspects of gender-related
expression in the Japanese language. - Article 3. Activities
- In order to fulfil its stated objective, the Society shall:
- Convene an annual conference and other study groups.
- Publish the bulletin "Japanese and Gender".
- Release the results of its research.
- Conduct other activities that contribute to its purpose.
- Article 4. Members and Auxiliary Members
- Membership of this Society shall consist of those who support its
objectives and who are engaged in related research. Individuals or
corporations
who support the Society’s research objectives may be admitted as
auxiliary members. - Article 5. Membership Fees
- Membership fees shall be payable at the annual conference or at
study groups. Payment by bank transfer shall not be accepted. - Article 6. Board
- The Society’s Board shall consist of one President and a number
of
advisors, directors, trustees, auditors and secretaries.- The President shall be elected by mutual vote of the
directors, and shall preside over the business of the Society and act
as its representative. - The advisors shall be nominated by the Board of Directors
after recommendation by the President and directors, and shall be
confirmed by the general assembly. - The directors shall include both those recommended from the
membership of the board of directors and those elected by the general
members. - The trustees shall include both those recommended from
the membership of the board of directors and those elected by the
general
members. The trustees shall assist in all aspects of the President’s
duties.
The President, with the approval of the directors, shall appoint the
auditors and secretaries. The auditors shall conduct an annual
financial audit of the Society. The secretaries shall assist the
directors with the organization and running of the annual conference
and study groups. - The President shall be elected by mutual vote of the
- Article 7. General Assembly and Board of Directors
- The Society shall consist of a General Assembly, a Board of
Directors and a Board of Trustees.- The General Assembly shall be comprised of the Society’s
members, and will be the highest decision making body regarding matters
of the Society’s activities and management. The General Assembly shall
be
convened once a year during the annual conference, and at any other
time
the President deems it necessary. - The Board of Directors shall be comprised of the President,
advisors and directors, and shall be responsible for the activities
outlined in Article 3, as well as the Society’s budgeting and financial
administration. The President shall convene the Board of Directors. - The Board of Trustees shall be convened before the annual
conference.
- The General Assembly shall be comprised of the Society’s
- Article 8. Office
- The Society shall establish an office in the Ishida Research
Office at the International Student Center of Gunma University. - Article 9. Amendment of Regulations
- These regulations may be amended with the consent of a two thirds
majority of those attending the annual conference.
By-Law.
- These regulations shall be published at the inaugural meeting of
The Society for Gender Studies in Japanese on March 18, 2001, and shall
be
effective from that date.

* The publication of the Society’s first bulletin is scheduled for
March, 2001.
* Notification of the Society’s activities shall be by email. For those
members who do not have email, the office within Gunma University shall
contact the member by post. In this case, members will be required to
pay
a postage fee of ¥5,000 when they join the Society.
* The application for membership shall include name, address,
telephone number and email address, gender, date of birth, affiliation,
main activities or educational experience, and what one expects from
membership in this Society.
